Money Management App Design Experience
I had an opportunity to work with four teammates to design a mobile App that helps college students manage their budget on dining without sacrificing social activities.
As one of the students who specialized with Design and Interaction, I participated in developing high-fidelity prototype, low-fidelity prototype, storyboard, logo design, marketing research and different analysis.
Mobile App: Design Features
Problem: According to the first marketing survey that we did, only few college students was using traditional money management apps to arrange their budget, as they claimed to have a limiting budget for daily life. In addition, the most common social activity for students is to eat outside with their friends. The App is aimed to incentivizing students to wisely spend money during social activities.
Process: Based on the problems that were addressed, we brainstormed on Miro and provided the solutions corresponding to each question. After we discussed and made decisions with the candidate solutions, a landing page was created for another round of marketing survey in order to see how many students would be interested in this App idea. Then we dived into generating the high-fidelity prototype, and meanwhile, we conducted a bunch of user tests to acquire user experience information and improve the features.
Three Main Design Aspects: Budget, Meals, Social Activity
Budget:
Allow users to input receipt information by scanning it. System will update data automatically in order to recommend affordable restaurants to the user.
Meal:
Users can place an order from the App directly so that the App is able to recognize the receipt automatically without the need to users to scan them manually. Also, they can view the visit history of their friends and send messages to them to see if they recommend the restaurant or not.
Social Activity:
Users can send invitations to their friends to eat together. As the same as most social media Apps, they can always send their friends messages.
